New design is instrumental to success

September 6, 2007

A NEW harmonica designed in the North East is taking the musical world by storm.

Birtley-based Tribal Planet designed a brand new type of harmonica earlier this year and has already sold its range around the world.

After working on the harmonica for the past three years, Tribal Planet's managing director David Wright said he was delighted to see it hit the high street.

He said: "The feedback has been encouraging, with many customers being astounded by the high level of specification.

"It's brilliant that we've got people selling the harmonicas in the countries that create 85% of the world’s music industry.

"We've made quite a few improvements to quality with regard to the instrument itself to make sure it has brilliant performance.

"And there's a range or type to suit everyone, from beginners upwards."

David says he fully expected the success of the new harmonica after taking such care in its development.

He said: "There is a demand in the market for improved harmonicas, and that's why Tribal Planet has spent so long developing the right instrument.

"We know the beginner has a much better chance of learning with a better quality instrument and we expect people who take up the instrument with a cheaper model to keep buying as they convert from starters to serious players."

The first place in the world to sell the new harmonicas was JG Windows Ltd, in Central Arcade, Newcastle.

Managing director Rupert Bradbury is hoping for a long and fruitful relationship with the instrument.

He said: "Our staff were very impressed when they first saw them and they believe they will be attractive to a wide range of customers as they provide something a bit different."

Mr Wright says he set up Tribal Planet to bring design excellence to the music industry and to offer consumers a better choice of instrument.
